About Our Lesson programs

We are excited you are here looking for information on Riding lessons. For close to 2 decades we have offered top notch instruction from our Experienced Coaches for beginner to advanced riders. We create a tailored lesson program to help you reach your individual goals. We accommodate both recreational and competitive riders. At Windover we share a passion for horsemanship and developing excellence, and happiness within our riders and horses. Coaching is offered on your own horse or one of our school horses.

For our School Horse Program, We have a large group of amazing school horses. These school horses are safe and reliable and make excellent teachers. Our School horse program is a great opportunity for anyone who does not own a horse but wants to learn to ride or improve your current skills. Our lesson structure includes both ground and mounted lessons in the arena and on the trails. We believe in Riders developing skill sets in both the arena and trails. We welcome both English and Western riders.

Adult Lessons

We have wonderful lesson options for our adult riders, with our facility offering over 200 acres of trails, a heated barn, a bright Indoor arena and Outdoor arenas we are able to operate 12 months of the year.

The flexible, personalized nature of our program caters to all levels of riders. You could be new to horses, returning to riding, or looking to build on your current skills. We tailor our coaching methods and lessons to best suit our riders’ goals, future plans and current riding abilities.

We have safe and reliable school horses available for private or group lessons or feel free to board your horse or haul in your own horse. Regardless of your level, our priority is to build confidence in both our riders and horses while ensuring a safe and fun learning environment and promoting excellent horsemanship.

We offer private lessons, allowing one-one learning experience with the time and space to reach your goals.

Our group lessons encourage learning in a fun and social manner where you can meet other fellow riders.

Please note; Our facility caters to both English and Western riders and we enjoy having a mix of recreational and competitive riders. For riders who are actively competing or keen to work towards competition, we are happy to cater our program to your best assist you reaching your goals.. Junior Lessons

We are excited you are inquiring for information regarding Lessons and what our junior program offers. Our Weekly Junior Lesson program is open to kids 6 years of age and up.

We do offer options for kids under 6 (please click here for more info)

Our riding program is unique in that we offer the option to learn and train on one of our amazing school horses, haul in your own horse or join our board/Train lesson program.

Our junior lesson program has been providing a safe, fun learning environment where we can foster growth for both our riders and horses for over 20 years. We believe in starting new riders from the ground up and creating a true partnership between horse/rider.

Our program runs 12 months of the year, and we tailor your lesson program to match our students’ goals and current skills. Our riders ride in arenas as well as explore trails and pastures and enjoy learning to ride different terrains in a safe environment.
We welcome riders with or without riding experience and offer instruction for English and Western riding. Our program facilitates both recreational riders and competitive Riders.

We also offer Horsemanship ground lessons, Theory Classes, RDC – Rider Developmental Camps, Sumer Camps, Team Events and more.

In Addition, our Riding School offers riders the opportunity to learn and test thru the Equestrian Canada Rider Level Program. This program offers education not only in riding, but stable management, horsemanship, and theory, the goal being to bring along well-rounded equestrians. This program offers riders accreditation and for juniors testing, high school credits.

Competitive Program

Looking to take your riding to the next level or moving here and want to join a barn with riders’ keen to compete and a facility that provides the means to keep your horse in tip top shape!  

Windover Equestrian has led in the East Kootenays with the largest team of Hunter/Jumper riders for the past 10 years. Competing with our team of riders locally and provincially for over 14 years. With many of our riders and horses winning championships and in the top placings.

 Our team consists of both junior and adult competitors of all levels. We also attend and have competitive riders in local and provincial dressage shows with excellent success.

Our Head Coach Lori Johansen ( EC NCCP Licenced Competiton Coach) and assistant coaches are happy to assist you in bringing along your young or new to competing horse or a seasoned competitor. We support riders to move through the levels while practicing solid horsemanship and developing confidence and skill in both horses and riders.

We provide an individual personal training plan for each horse/rider to best suit their goals and horses’ capabilities. We believe in putting our horses first and taking the time to develop the basics that will provide you with a solid foundation as you progress through the levels. We also support riders who want to compete and enjoy remaining within a certain level.

If you have a horse, you want to develop and show/train. We have trainer program options we would be happy to discuss.

Horse Council BC – Horse Council BC is a membership-driven association representing the interests of the equine industry in all sectors throughout British Columbia, such as agriculture, industry, sport, and recreation through education, grant funding, club support, government advocating, liability insurance, and participant programs.

Equestrian Canada Rider Levels

Our head coach Lori (EC Licenced ) at Windover is happy to coach and prepare riders to test for/thru their Equine Canada Riders Levels. If you are a rider outside of our program looking to test, please contact us. 

The EC rider levels can be good goal options for riders of all ages and are a great option for those looking to use their equine related skills to earn high school credits. Please contact us for more information.
